BEACHES

There are eight different beaches on the 5-kilometre coast of Izola: bathing areas with facilities, natural and wild beaches, a sandy bay, an archaeological site as well as the beach with the best view, a wheelchair accessible beach and even a dog friendly beach. The longest beach in Slovenian Istria is currently developing along the road connecting Izola and Koper, right were the SS Rex, the biggest ocean liner of its time that sailed under the Italian flag, sank in 1944.

Bele skale


The best things in life are (wild) and free. Wild and free, just as the Bele skale beach, where anyone can find a quiet place to themselves. Follow the narrow path towards cape Ronek to get there. There you will find peace, a beautiful view of the town in the distance and the sound of splashing waves, nothing more. You can find shade under the bushes or build your own improvised canopy, using only driftwood and beach towels.

The nearest parking lot at the foot the Belvedere hill. The beach is a part of the protected area of the Strunjan Landscape Park.

Do not litter!

The beach is perfect for lovey-dovey couples, nature lovers, bookworms and nudists.

 

Pod Belvederjem


The beach at the foot of the Belvedere hill is less than 100 m long and yet it has achieved cult status. The place where a renowned independent cultural centre once stood remains a popular meeting point for youth of every persuasion. The high poplar trees provide a cool shade to the bathers, who usually look for a perfect spot for their beach towels and slacklines on the meadow below the cliffs. The wooden pier is the right place to cool down and exchange seductive glances. On many long summer nights, there is also live music and parties that last until dawn.

San Simon


San Simon, or rather the Simonov zaliv bay, is the most popular beach in Izola, attracting numerous bathers throughout the summer. The beach boasts a sandy bay, the remains of a Roman villa, a beach-volley court and the last waterslide on the Slovenian coast. Green meadows, pine trees and acacias that provide protection from the sun surround the bathing area. There is also a multi-purpose sports court for those who prefer to spend their leisure time actively.

The nearest parking lot is right by the beach. Lifeguards patrol the beach. There is a snack bar and an ice-cream bar on the beach. Sunshade and sun-lounger rental. Water Sports Centre.

The beach is suitable for children, families, active bathers and youth.

 

Delfinček


The bathing area of Delfinček (Little dolphin) is a favourite among guest of the Delfin hotel and local seniors alike. It is known for all-day sunbathing, golden tans, card games, socializing and the smell of high SPF sunscreens. The bathing area is located between the sea wall of the marina and the promenade that leads to the Simonov zaliv bay.

Ice-cream bar on the beach. Lifeguards patrol the beach. Sunshade and sun-lounger rental.

Suitable for senior citizens and families.

 

Svetilnik


Svetilnik, the Lighthouse beach, is the most picturesque and iconic beach in Izola, with the old town-centre and lush pine trees as a backdrop, and the charming lighthouse, set on the spot where the land stretches farthest out into the Adriatic Sea. While sunbathing, you can enjoy the incredible view from the Moon bay of Strunjan to Trieste, the cape of Debeli rtič and Koper. Safe access to the sea, the shade of the trees, the meadows and the sea breeze guarantee an unforgettable bathing experience. Those who prefer evening swimming will also enjoy the scenic sunsets. Windy days attract windsurfers and kitesurfers, while the powerful Burja wind clears up the sky, revealing a view of the Julian Alps in the distance.

The nearest parking lot is near the former Delamaris plant, a 10-minute walk from the beach. The beach has facilities. Restaurant and ice-cream bar on the beach. Sunshade and sun-lounger rental. Playground.

WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE BEACH


The only wheelchair accessible beach on the Slovenian coast addressing the needs of people with reduced mobility and people with special needs. Easy access to the sea, swimming pools and an adapted environment provide for a pleasant bathing experience to those who usually cannot access regular beaches.

Vehicle access is possible, the parking lot is right by the beach.

DOG FRIENDLY BEACH


Every summer dog owners look for a place where their four-legged friends could frolic around in the sea without disturbing other bathers. There is only one such place on the Slovenian coast and it is right here in Izola, on the beach beside the former Delamaris plant. There is tap water and a canopy to provide shade.

The nearest parking lot is near the former Delamaris plant, a 10-minute walk from the beach.

Suitable for dogs and dog owners.

THE BEACH BETWEEN IZOLA AND KOPER


Four kilometres of the former seaside road, connecting Izola and Koper, are now reserved for pedestrians, cyclists, other recreation enthusiasts and, of course, bathers. The area is becoming the longest beach in Slovenian Istria, where you can now enjoy a sunset without the noise of the traffic in the background. There is also an important story linked to this place. During World War II, the SS Rex, the biggest Italian ocean liner of its time, sank right in the bay between Izola and Koper. There are several spots along the coast intended for dogs and dog owners.

Vehicle access is possible, the parking lot is right by the beach, near the stores Merkur and Eurospin.
