Winter by the Sea
Izola is particularly charming in winter when you can admire beautiful views of the Alps that seem to be almost in the palm of your hand, actively experience the town and its surroundings, or take a stroll by the sea with the wind in your hair.
Relaxing with the wind in your hair
Take a walk by the sea and enjoy the freshness of the seaside air. Head along the promenade past the old harbor to the Svetilnik viewpoint. The cold winter mornings there are especially magical as it is possible to observe the snowy Alps in pastel shades. Walk in the botanical park and go up to the highest point of the town: the church of St. Maurus. The view from the bell tower opens up to the old town center and the Izola Marina.
If you would like to visit the bell tower, the priest will gladly show it to you. You can also ask him about the secret he revealed to us.
You can also start your journey in the other direction and walk past the Marina to San Simon’s Bay. For those who want a little more than a short walk, you can continue to Belvedere towards Parenzana, past Jagodje, and conclude the circular path in the center of Izola.
Izola and its surroundings offer many cycling routes with varying levels of difficulty and with great views along all of them. Feel the endless blue while riding along the coastal road between Izola and Koper, ride along the former narrow-gauge railway Parenzana route, or explore the Izola hinterland by bike.
Cycling maps of the Slovenian Istria are available in our Tourist information centre and HERE.
Gourmet flavors of the sea
After spending the day in the sun, a delicious dinner in one of Izola’s restaurants is necessary. Let the flavors of Izola enchant you, choose a culinary pampering according to your taster or look at the published recipes and test your cooking skills.
Fun at the Island
Izolana invites you to pay a visit during the winter holidays and get to know the stories of this former fishing town. In Izolana, you will see the museum exhibition, step into the cabin of a fishing boat, and observe the transformation of the former island through an audiovisual projection on a model of the town.
In addition to the historical island, you can visit a real Ice Island in Izola. Join us in the festive Pietro Coppo Park and skate surrounded by sparkling lights.
