In the film, a brother and sister visit their father, who lives a secluded life in the American countryside; an elegant, somewhat distant mother in Dublin prepares for a visit from her two daughters; twins return to the empty Paris apartment where they grew up after the sudden death of their parents.
The film presents three stories—sometimes funny, sometimes sad—about the relationship between parents and their adult children. Jim Jarmusch’s “anti-action film” received the Golden Lion in Venice.
