The Italian Community Dante Alighieri of Izola and the Popular University of Trieste present the concert "Respect! A Night for Aretha", held in Piazza Manzioli as a tribute to the timeless artist Aretha Franklin, who passed away in 2018.
Lady Soul – an icon of African American culture and feminism – sang every song masterfully, with an intensity and originality born of the blend between her musical roots and her ability to stay in tune with the spirit of her times.
The project, launched in autumn 2019, brings together three powerful female voices – Elena Vinci, Joy Jenkins, and Michela Grilli – backed by a solid band: Jimmy Bolco on drums, Francesco Cainero on bass, Marco Ballaben on keyboards, and Luigi Di Campo on guitar. The horn section features Angelo Chiocca on saxophone and Giorgio Ruzzier on trumpet.
The concert program includes songs that remain faithful to the 1960s studio versions, others inspired by more recent live performances, and some presented with a more personalized touch – yet always rooted in music that is nothing short of soul!
Timeless ballads like “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” alternate with upbeat tracks such as “Think” and “Respect”, and groovy numbers like “Chain of Fools”.
In case of bad weather, the event will be cancelled. Free admission to the square until all seats are taken.
