Seydou Yoni Kouyate is a multi instrumentalist who plays the kora (a 21 string instrument), keyboards, percussion, balafon and more. Born into a musical family, with a mother who is a singer and dancer and a father who is a guitarist, he has performed as a musician and dancer since childhood. At the age of seventeen, he left his native Ivory Coast for Bamako, where he continues his musical journey to this day.

With his unique musical expression on the kora, keyboards and vocals, he effortlessly moves between centuries old musical tradition and contemporary urban African music. Since 2022, he has been a member of the ensemble of the legendary Salif Keita, while also being recognised as a rising solo artist.

His repertoire consists of Yoni’s original compositions, deeply rooted in the Mandinka tradition, yet at the same time expressive, free, original and authentic. He has already toured Slovenia with various ensembles, and this time he is joined by Tina Sovič on percussion.
