In March 2026, Slovenia will welcome a unique meeting of two outstanding Latin American artists. Renowned Brazilian bassist Glauco Solter served as musical director for over 15 years for the legendary trombonist Raul de Souza and has performed with Brazilian music masters including Airto Moreira, João Bosco, Toninho Horta, João Donato, and Arismar do Espírito Santo.
Cuban pianist José Portillo is celebrated as a virtuoso performer and brilliant composer. He has collaborated with top Cuban artists such as Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez and Jorge Reyes and has served as musical director and arranger for the
internationally acclaimed singer Omara Portuondo. The two first met in 2023 during the Havana Jazz Plaza Festival jam sessions and toured Brazil twice in the following years, with special guest saxophonist Carlos Malta. Making their European debut, the performance also features Brazilian musicians based in Vienna: Gabriel Moraes on guitar and Matheus Jardim on drums.
The quartet will present original compositions by Solter and Portillo, along with tributes to the great masters of Brazil and Cuba. A celebration of rhythm, color, and culture, this concert unites the vibrant spirit of two nations through music and
friendship.
