Oliver Tič - Oli Walker will be with us.
Every journey always begins with the first step, says the Taoist wisdom of Laozi. Oliver Tič, better known as Oli the Walker, is a traveller or a walker who loves to walk. On Tuesday, 16 January 2024, he visited us at the Žalec Municipal Library and shared his hiking adventures with us.
In 2016, he walked across the United States from the West Coast to the East Coast. It took him 175 days to cover 6840 kilometres. He crossed ten states. He was alone on the trail, accompanied only by a wheelchair called Will, which translates as "will". In 2018, he embarked on a new 25,000-kilometre journey along the Panamerica Highway, starting in Ushuaia in southern Argentina and finishing in Alaska's "Prudhoe Bay". This time he took Will with him.
In Peru, he came across a helpless dog named Carlitos lying on the pavement in the middle of the city. He took her to the vet and when she recovered, they continued their journey together. He managed the feat in two stages, having to go home in between because of a pandemic. He crossed America from the south of Argentina to the north of Alaska in 993 days.
His daily adventures were also shared on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. We will also be able to follow him on these channels in April this year. He and Carlitos are going around the world on foot. This challenging project has also been supported by several towns in Slovenia, namely Žalec, Radlje ob Dravi, Moravske Toplice and Slovenske Konjice. We already wish them many new adventures and a safe walk.
We look forward to welcoming you.
