As part of her tour of Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia, Ghanaian singer Wiyaala, one of the biggest stars on the African music scene, will perform at Hangar Bar on 19 September.
The singer comes from Funsi, an African village located in the north-western region of Ghana. Her music is a conglomeration of West African folk songs and Afro-fusion, enriched by her personal interperetation of traditional West African mythology and storytelling through energetic traditional dance movements.
Already in 2019, Wiyaala has teamed up with renowned Slovenian musicians for a European tour. The Ghanaian star will thus perform with:
Miha Petric - guitar
Nejc Škofic - keyboards
Jošt Lampret - bass
Žiga Kožar - drums
Wiyaala has performed with the Slovenian first division band at festivals such as Womad UK, Riddu Riđđu (Manndalen, Norway), Welcome to the Village (Leeuwarden, Netherlands), Afro Pfingsten (Switzerland), Maribor's Lent festival and Kamfest.
When Wiyaala caught the eye of Rita Ray from BBC's Global beats in 2014, a tremendous opportunity arose and Wiyaala became one of Ghana's leading international musicians, performing at festivals and events around the world.
When not performing, Wiyaala supports the arts in Northern Ghana and has created The Djimba World Music Festival. She is also an activist for UNICEF and campaigns to end child marriage.
