No Other Choice (어쩔수가없다) is a 2025 South Korean satirical black-comedy thriller by Park Chan-wook, based on Donald Westlake’s The Ax and starring Lee Byung-hun and Son Ye-jin. It follows a laid-off paper industry expert who starts eliminating rivals to land a job, premiered in competition at Venice (Aug 29, 2025), and later earned major awards attention.
Plot:
Man-su, a longtime papermaking employee, loses his job when his company is bought out, plunging his family into financial crisis. Desperate to reclaim his status and save his home, he spirals into violence, targeting rivals he believes stand in his way. Through manipulation and murder, he secures a new job—only to find himself isolated in an automated mill, his success hollow and dehumanized.
