Study Day: Pietro Coppo and the Map of Istria 1525–2025

10:00 AM – 5:00 PM – International Study Symposium
A study day dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Pietro Coppo’s Map of Istria, contained in the Piran manuscript De summa totius orbis.
The symposium will focus on the circulation of knowledge in the northern Adriatic between the Late Humanist and Renaissance periods.
On the ground floor, a special exhibition will display the 16th-century manuscript containing Coppo’s map of Istria – the oldest known printed depiction of the peninsula – accompanied by informative panels.
7:00 PM – Lecture
To mark this significant anniversary, Rino Cigui and Kristjan Knez will present the lecture “Pietro Coppo, His Work and His Time”.
The celebration will also include the issuance of a commemorative postage stamp and postcard.
