The Izola City Library and the Izola Centre for Culture, Sports and Events invite you to the book presentation of Aljoša Harlamov: Dohtar in povodni mož, the latest work by literary historian, editor, and podcaster Aljoša Harlamov.

The novel is set in Ljubljana in 1835, where France Prešeren, under unusual circumstances, finds himself beside the body of a drowned woman and soon becomes an unwilling detective. Under pressure from the authorities, he must solve a murder mystery that reveals complex relationships, political tensions, and hidden aspects of society at the time. The novel skillfully combines historical background, literary imagination, and a gripping crime story. It presents Prešeren in a new light—as a complex, witty, and deeply human protagonist—while also raising questions about creativity, language, and the formation of national identity.

Author Aljoša Harlamov is a literary historian, essayist, and editor who has long been dedicated to researching and popularising genre literature. He is also a co-creator of the O.B.O.D. podcast, where he discusses literature, film, and contemporary culture with guests. His writing is distinguished by a broad knowledge of the literary field and a strong sense of storytelling. At the event, the discussion will explore the creation of the novel, his perspective on literary history, and how genre literature can bring the past to life in a fresh and engaging way.
