England, 1580. Free-spirited Agnes, a falconer and herbalist with an almost mystical connection to the natural world, meets Will, a poor Latin teacher. They fall into a passionate relationship that soon leads to marriage and the birth of three children: their firstborn Susanna and the twins Judith and Hamnet. While Will rises to prominence as a playwright in distant London, Agnes stays home to care for the children. Yet there are forces that even the most protective mother cannot stop.

Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) imagines how a real-life tragedy from Shakespeare’s own story may have inspired the creation of his timeless masterpiece Hamlet. Featuring remarkable performances by Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, the film is a moving tale of love, loss, and the healing power of art.
