This documentary uses never-before-seen archive footage and exclusive interviews with those close to her to weave an intimate portrait of the "barefoot diva". Audience Award at the IndieLisboa Festival.
Cesária Évora grew up in extreme poverty, made a living singing in local bars for decades, before suddenly achieving extraordinary fame at the age of 50. She brought the genre of morna, the traditional music of Cape Verde, imbued with melancholy, longing and "sodade", to the world music stage. But wealth and fame did not change her, she remained free and independent.
