In an idyllic village in the heart of the Slovenian mountains lives a boy named Kekec (Matija Barl). On the mountain, on opposite sides of a chasm, live the herbalist Kosobrin (Frane Milčinski) and the wild hunter Bedanec (France Presetnik), who is served by a girl named Mojca (Zdenka Logar). Mojca complains to Kosobrin about her hard life, and the old man takes her in, even though he is very afraid of Bedanec. Bedanec indeed captures him and ties him to a tree. But brave Kekec is not afraid of Bedanec. With courage and cleverness, he frees the prisoner and forces Bedanec to leave the area forever.
