Laura, a piano student from Berlin, miraculously survives a car accident during a countryside trip. She is taken in by Betty, a mysterious local woman who begins to care for her with maternal devotion. When Betty’s husband and adult son also overcome their initial reserve, the lonely country house soon becomes the scene of a true family idyll. But the ghosts of the past are increasingly coming to the surface…
