Istrian embroidery workshop: ažur
Location: Izola City Library
Organizer: Izola City Library
Time: 9.00 am
The Izola City Library and the study circle Šivilja in škarjice are organising an Istrian embroidery workshop entitled “AŽUR” as part of the European Heritage Days.
The workshop will be led by folklore costume maker Ljuba Vrtovec Pribac. Istrian embroidery is part of Istria’s rich folk textile heritage. It is characterised by various decorative patterns and techniques once used mainly to embellish clothing, tablecloths, bed linen and other household textiles. One of the distinctive techniques is ažur, a decorative form of embroidery in which individual threads are drawn from the fabric to create characteristic open, lace-like patterns.
Advance registration is required by email at erika.gregoric@guest.arnes.si, by phone at +386 (0)5 663 12 84, or in person at the library.
The workshop will take place in the reading room of the Izola City Library.
