Izola City Library and the Čarobne poti Study Circle invite you to a presentation of Darij Olenik’s book Priročnik za staranje (A Guide to Ageing) on the International Day of Older Persons.
In short chapters filled with satire, self-deprecating humour and observations on everyday life, the author offers an entertaining read for those already experiencing the changes that come with age, as well as those who have yet to face them. He invites readers to approach this stage of life with a lighter heart, even when the moment comes “when the body stops cooperating, memory improvises, the sofa becomes a religion and coffee becomes life support.” It is a guide without solutions, but with one essential piece of wisdom: “The less you care, the longer you last.” Along the way, Olenik prompts us to consider how we age and how our view of the world changes with us.
Darij Olenik is a 66-year-old IT specialist who retired due to disability. Since having a stroke, he has devoted much of his time to reading and has begun expressing the thoughts he wants to share through prose and poetry.
Marina Hrs will lead the conversation with the author.
