Time: 9.30 pm

Entrance fee: 15,00 €

The monodrama The Eternal Child was created in 1986. It is a monologue by a woman who, without knowing it, gives birth to a child with Down's syndrome. Her marriage is happy, her four-year-old first-born is healthy, but the birth of her son with Down's syndrome turns their lives upside down. Maya tells her story on the eve of her son's first day at school. This is the moment when she will have to let him out of the safe shelter of her family and into a world of independence and also of cruelty, which is reflected in the attitude of the able-bodied towards people with disabilities.

The outside world is cruel and unforgiving. Some friends leave the family for good, others distance themselves, others make jokes, neighbours shun them when they see them, few are prepared to accept the fact that a child may have special needs and may be different on the outside, but on the inside he or she is kind and warm and exactly the same as all able-bodied people. They are also ashamed to call him or her names, most often "that child".
