Tour: Where Is the Venetian Lion Hiding? A Family Adventure Through Izola
Location: Izola – Old Town Centre & Podestat Palace and Izolana
Organizer: Tourist Board Izola
Time: 10.00 am
Entrance fee: 7,00 - 10,00 €
Do you know where the winged lion is hiding in Izola and what stories it tells? Join us as we explore the town, uncover traces of its Venetian past, hear stories from long ago and discover traditional boats in the old harbour.
Our adventure will begin at Izolana, the House of the Sea, where we will spend the first half hour discovering Izola’s maritime heritage and history. We will then set off on a guided walk through the town’s streets and squares in search of the Venetian lion. We will find out why it has wings and how it is connected to our town’s history.
We will also visit the interior of the Podestà Palace, hear its stories and learn some interesting facts about its restoration. In the old harbour, we will take a closer look at traditional boats and learn how to recognise their distinctive features.
The tour will also include a short, fun quiz about Izola’s history, with everyone helping to find the answers. All you need is curiosity and a keen eye!
Children, parents, grandparents and anyone who would like to discover Izola in a playful way are welcome.
