Summer in Izola: more than just sun and sea
When we talk about summer, many people think of sun, sea, and carefree lounging on the beach. But Izola offers much more than just a refreshing dip in the sea. Its authentic atmosphere, diverse experiences, and warm-hearted locals ensure you truly relax and create unforgettable memories in this seaside town.
Beaches for every taste
Izola has 8 different beaches along just over 5 kilometres of coastline. If you’re looking for well-maintained beaches with everything you need for carefree enjoyment of the sea and sun, head to San Simon, which offers a playground, slide, mini club, sun loungers, and refreshments. The town beach Svetilnik and Delfinček Beach also have plenty of amenities: sun loungers for rent, a bar, restrooms, and changing cabins — and at Delfinček there’s also a lifeguard on duty.
For those who prefer a quieter atmosphere or wilder spots, we recommend the Pod Belvederjem Beach, which also becomes a party venue on summer evenings, the Bele skale Beach, or the stretch of coast between Izola and Koper known as the coastal road. Here you can even swim with your four-legged friend.
We’d also like to highlight that Izola has the only beach in Slovenian Istria adapted for people with mobility impairments and other disabilities, with arranged access to the sea or pools and assistance.

Carefree summer rides
In the summer crowds, a car isn’t the best choice — so we encourage you to explore the town and surroundings on foot or by bike, if it’s not too hot. In season, the popular tourist train also runs, taking you on a circular tour of Izola to all the main spots and beaches.
Timetable, stops, and prices are published on the Visit Izola website and on information boards at the stops.

In the shade of Izola’s alleys
When the sun gets hot, seek pleasant shade in the old town and visit Izolana — House of the Sea. This isn’t a classic museum, but a space where the past comes alive through interactive presentations and stories by a local guide.
In summer it’s open Wednesday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm, and for groups by prior reservation.

Events under the stars
Summer in Izola is enlivened by many musical and cultural events. On weekends, Pietro Coppo Park hosts various concerts as part of Summer in the Park. Cinema and concert lovers can enjoy the Arrigoni Open-Air Cinema, where selected films and bigger concerts take place under the stars.
Don’t miss the Fishermen’s Feast — the biggest summer event with over 50 years of tradition, combining seafood delicacies, music, and friendly gatherings of locals and visitors.
Tastes of Izola
Izola’s taverns and restaurants invite you all year round with tasty dishes. Menus feature local ingredients, fresh fish, seafood, and produce from Istrian land. If you’d rather cook your own summer meal, visit the seasonal farmers market Ruba sz moje njive on Drevored 1. maja, where local farmers sell fresh fruit, vegetables, and products on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Wine and olive oil lovers can also enjoy tastings at local producers who will happily guide you through the world of Istrian wines and oils.
