Time: 8.30 pm

Café Noisette consists of vocalist Kaya Tokuhisa, pianist Rok Lopatič and accordionist Žiga Vehovec. Although all three are active in different musical settings, they are united by their love of performing chansons.

Kaya and Rok met at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television, where they trained in the interpretation of French chanson under Professor Žare Prinčič – Kaya as a student and Rok as the Academy’s resident accompanist. Kaya’s singing is distinguished by her expressive interpretation, which she further refined during her master’s studies in theatre singing.

This is where the first ideas for a series of chanson concert evenings began to take shape. To enrich their sound, Kaya and Rok invited accordionist Žiga Vehovec to join them. Café Noisette thus assumed its complete form and performed its debut concert in 2018 as part of the Poleti v NUK festival.

The members of the ensemble share a love of chansons, which they perform in French, Slovenian and Italian, while occasionally venturing into other musical worlds. Their repertoire includes many well-known melodies made famous by celebrated artists such as Édith Piaf, Juliette Gréco, Fabrizio De André and Frane Milčinski – Ježek.

Their programme also features a wide selection of original compositions written by Barbara Kobal. The lyrics explore a variety of themes, all united by a distinctive atmosphere that evokes contrasting images and awakens a colourful range of emotions in the listener – from the melancholy of a dusky autumn evening to the brightness of a summer sky washed clean by rain.

The members of the ensemble support, inspire and complement one another musically. The result of their collaboration is a collection of chansons that sound original and fresh with every performance.
