The world of contradictions in which we live leads us to contemplate our finitude (or infinity) and at the same time forces us into divisions that can lead to war and woe. In Greco-Roman mythology, the role of the one who transported the souls of the dead to the underworld was played by Charon, but in the modern world we are all sailing in the same boat, poor and rich, beautiful and reformed, rulers and the rest of us, but seemingly without a helmsman. In my exhibition at the Salsaverde Gallery, I try to show my understanding of this world on a symbolic level, also with flowers, but with the caution that what is beautiful is not necessarily good.

BARBARA JURKOVŠEK (Ljubljana, 1981) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana in 2006 and received her Master's degree in painting in 2009 under the supervision of Prof. Metka Krašovec. Later she studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Lecce in Italy.
She has had numerous solo and group exhibitions and projects at home and abroad (USA, UK, France, Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Italy...). Since 2009 she has been self-employed in culture. She works in Izola and Dol near Ljubljana in the fields of painting, sculpture, graphic art, calligraphy and scientific illustration.
