Rural Ireland in 1981. Nine-year-old Cáit lives in a chaotic home with a pregnant mother, a brutal father and loud siblings. But things change when her parents send her to live with her mother's cousin and her husband for the summer. Cáit finds her new surroundings a little frightening at first, but soon finds the warmth and attention she so desperately needs. In her loving home, the girl slowly blossoms, but amidst the idyllic beauty of the Irish countryside lies a painful truth that Cáit begins to discover with new-found courage and confidence...
A quietly moving, sensitive coming-of-age story that explores issues of family, loneliness and grief through the eyes of its young protagonist. Filmed in the rarely heard Irish language, the film has delighted audiences and critics alike, winning numerous accolades including the Grand Prix in the Generation Kplus section in Berlin and an Oscar nomination for Best International Feature.
