At first glance, Linhart’s Županova Micka may appear to be a fragile or at least highly naive text, with little connection to the present day. But is that really the case? Is not Micka’s yearning for glamour, fine clothes, and a “refined” life still relevant today? Has the loving prudence and integrity of her father truly lost its value over time? Is Anže’s peasant common sense not still worth considering? Would Tulpenheim’s pursuit of young innocent girls and wealthy widows be any different today? Has Monkof’s opportunism really grown old? And how many drunken Glažeks still roam our beloved homeland today?
The magical power of theatre, from antiquity to the present, lies precisely in its ability to conjure and embody in actors what is most essential in the written word. Every dramatic text, once staged, can resonate like a new, never-before-performed composition – if only one seeks out the hidden clues close to contemporary life, discovering associations and parallels with our own time and its peculiarities. This is undoubtedly the starting point of the performance returning to the stage of the Šentjakob Theatre, also as a tribute to the versatile Anton Tomaž Linhart.
