Opening of a transmedia participatory exhibition project
Five years have passed. Five years of cultivating the visible, audible, gustatory, tactile and self-expressive potential of embodied existence in a once almost forgotten public space in a small town. The local community may not always have understood it, yet it accepted it and sensed that it needed it.
For the first time, the exhibition project An Act of Sensual Cuisine offers the public a more comprehensive presentation of a long-standing body of photographic and photomontage work, together with a creative method that emerged from care for space, community and interpersonal relationships. This method developed through an exploration of cooking as an embodied creative act and food as a means of encounter, storytelling and sharing with others.
Food – our daily bread. Basic and primal, sensual and connective. An existential necessity, a source of pleasure or a status-driven perversion; a reflection of social inequalities, hierarchies, exploitation, cruel practices and contradictions that continue to deepen in the contemporary world.
Can food become the elemental substance through which a different future can be created and shared?
An Act of Sensual Cuisine emerges as a response to the world’s need for attentiveness, sensuality, solidarity, creativity and connection. It does not offer a definitive method or recipe but opens a space in which cooking becomes an artistic and communal act.
Five years of research, creation, cooking, encounters and shared moments. Five years are only as many as the fingers on one hand, yet they are enough to demonstrate how something that seems both essential and almost impossible can be established and sustained: a space that, for half a decade, has used creativity and perseverance to resist the rapid pace and market logic that turn people and humanity into a means to an end.
The exhibition is part of the project Through the Stomach: Sensory Cooking for a Solidary and Sustainable Community, funded by the Humanitas Association within the framework of its strategic partnership for global learning with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. The content reflects the author’s views and does not represent the official position of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia or the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia.
The opening will be followed by a performance by the Trieste-based Choro Club, featuring samba-jazz improvisations.
