MRK brings together musicians from different backgrounds and cultural environments, resulting in an open, contrasting and distinctly atmospheric sound. The project’s name comes from the Slovenian word mrk, meaning an eclipse: a moment when light and darkness meet. This idea forms the central concept of their music, which moves between clear, energetic passages and deeper, more restrained layers of sound.
The project’s sound is strongly shaped by the prominent role of the brass and woodwind instruments, particularly trumpet and saxophone, which introduce bright and expressive lines. A powerful rhythm section and effect-driven keyboards create contrasting depth and a sense of spaciousness.
MRK’s music lies at the intersection of jazz, contemporary instrumental music and experimental approaches, with a clear emphasis on dynamics, rhythm and sonic contrasts. Space and its silence also provide an important source of inspiration, giving the music a sense of vastness, movement and airiness.
